MIDDLETON, ID — The Canyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a gas explosion in Middleton early on Thursday.

The incident occurred when an excavator accidentally punctured the Williams Pipeline, a high-pressure line operated by Intermountain Gas.

First responders were able to get the gas line shut down quickly. Evacuation orders and shelter-in-place orders were in effect for about 2 hours.

Officials reported one person incurred minor injuries during the incident.

The area was cleared and roads were reopened by approximately 1:30 pm.

The area of impact had been near the intersection of Purple Sage Road and Duff Lane in Middleton.

Schools in the area worked closely with emergency crews for updates and to keep students and parents informed. Students have resumed classes as scheduled. Bus routes will follow normal schedules for all Middleton schools.
