Health insurance deadline is looming

Posted

You may be surprised at how affordable health insurance can be through the Gem state's health exchange.

Tax credits are available to most Idahoans through the exchange called Your Health Idaho. However, the deadline to select a plan is less than two weeks away.

There is no need to worry, though, since you don't have to go through the process alone.

A certified agent can help you choose a plan that best fits your needs, free of charge.

"We see a big spike in traffic right around that Dec. 15 deadline," says Pat Kelly, executive director of Your Health Idaho. "So, the sooner people can come out, look, shop and compare and see what's best for them I think the better off they'll be in terms of getting in by the Dec. 15 deadline."

Even if you've already locked a plan in place, keep in mind that the first payment has to make it to your carrier by Jan. 1 to ensure that coverage kicks in the first of the year.

If you fail to sign up for any type of coverage during the current open enrollment period, expect higher penalties this year at tax time.
