Idaho Transportation Department crews will begin seal coat repairs on Idaho Highway 55 between Donnelly and Smiths Ferry beginning next week.

“Work will occur during daytime hours near Donnelly, and move south to Smiths Ferry. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph in the work zone, and pilot cars will guide motorists though each work zone,” ITD spokeswoman Jennifer Gonzalez explained.

During the operation, drivers should expect delays.

Work is scheduled to be completed the following week. No work is scheduled Friday (July 15), but reduced speeds will remain in effect through the weekend.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down and pay attention to posted speed signs along Idaho 55, Gonzalez said.

In 2015, an ITD contractor placed a seal coat on this entire section of Idaho 55. However, portions of the seal coat began to fail during the winter months. The contractor is required to complete the current repairs under a warranty that ITD required for the original seal coat contract.

Seal coats extend the life of the roadway and improves traction for winter driving.
