A parent’s worst nightmare is the loss of a child.

An Idaho Falls couple is experiencing that heartbreak, but they have the support of people around the globe and it all started with a song.

Kami and Jason Chapa welcomed their son Hayden three years ago, but doctors gave the couple some heartbreaking news.

Hayden was diagnosed with microcephaly.  He was also born with no kneecaps and lived with a host of other medical conditions.  Doctors prepared the couple for what was ahead, telling them their son would not live to see his 10th birthday.

As the family gathered at Hayden’s bedside, Jason had a special request for Kami.  He asked her to sing to their dying child.

Kami had practiced the song “Dancing in the Sky” many times as her grandmother requested Kami sing it at her funeral.

“When Jason asked me to sing that song, I knew I had to,” Kami said. “He was just an angel on earth. Everything he would do would make people happy,” the mom said of her son.

According to Kami, Hayden would stop whatever he was doing, when he heard her sing the special song, and so, one last time, this mom sang her heart out for her baby boy.

Jason uploaded the video and it’s been viewed almost 100,000 times in less than a week.  Now, the couple says they’re hoping it will help others in their situation.

“There have been people from all over the world telling us their story and you know how they've been moved.”
