IDOC investigates apparent inmate suicide

Posted

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho officials say a prison inmate has died in an apparent suicide about a week after taking medication.

The Idaho Department of Correction in a statement says 47-year-old Troy Blaine Watson died in a Boise hospital on Saturday.

Officials say Watson appeared to suffer a seizure at the 432-bed Correctional Alternative Placement Program on Nov. 29.

Officials say Watson told staff he had taken his personal medication for the purpose of suicide.

Department of Correction officials say prison staff responded with treatment and transported Watson to the hospital where he remained until his death.

An autopsy is planned, and the department plans to conduct a serious incident review.

Watson was serving a sentence for possession of a controlled substance.
