Indian Creek Plaza in downtown Caldwell breaks ground on Monday.

The plan for the plaza will include a stage where theatrical performances and concerts will be held. During the winter, it will include an ice skating rink.

Mayor Garret Nancolas will speak at the ceremony. The designer, GGLO Designs, McAlvain Construction and Destination Caldwell will also be present .

Over the next couple months, city crews will be on site demolishing and taking off about 30 inches of top soil. Mcalvain Construction will come in to do the rest.

A city of Caldwell representative says the plaza will be a much needed gathering space.

"The city of caldwell doesn't have a central gathering space, um where our community can come together and really um, have kind of that living room mentality where um everybody can come together and just kind of visit about what's happening in their life."

Splash pads and a large movie screen will be part of the space during the summer. The area will also be used for farmer's markets.

Organizers are hoping to open the ice skating rink by christmas time.

The ground breaking ceremony will be held at four p.m. at the future site on the corner of Arthur Street and Kimball Avenue in downtown Caldwell on Monday.
