IDAHO — The Indigenous Idaho Alliance, a nonprofit organization, is holding a Native Community Holiday Drive event to spread some joy to Native American families this holiday season.

Tai Simpson, a member, and supporter of IIA, said they're accepting toys, board games, clothing or grocery gift cards and perishable food items.

"We have had known for a while that Native American communities not only in Idaho but across the country have adversely been affected by COVID," Simpson said.

The donations will be delivered and distribute next week to Native American families in Boise areas and IIA plans to travel to Duck Valley Reservation, Fort Hall, and McDermitt, to distribute the donated items to families there as well.

"We are thankful and grateful for folks who are non-native and show up as accomplices to help us and support us in this work," Simpson said. "Again, they are showing up to help center joy and center wellness and center community, and that's what this is about."

Friday will be their last day taking donations at the Linen Building on 1402 West Grove Street in Boise from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
