BOISE, Idaho — Join Boise Parks and Recreation and the Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS) team on March 7 for an official groundbreaking and open house in honor of the newest section of garden. BUGS is located at 2995 N. Five Mile Rd. inside Comba Park in West Boise.

Saturday’s event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free and open to all. There will be an opportunity to help build the new Little Learners Garden plot, enjoy a nutritious snack in the BUGS kitchen, visit BUGS’ resident worms, listen to stories read-aloud by staff and much more. The official “golden shovel” garden groundbreaking will take place at noon.

The garden at BUGS is an education space for visitors of all ages to learn about seed starting, soil care, gardening, harvesting, nutrition and more. The regional facility offers classes and camps throughout the year both in the garden and in the culinary kitchen inside the BUGS barn.

This new Little Learners Garden plot will be a place for preschool-aged children to learn about gardening and get their hands dirty in the soil. BUGS offers drop-off preschool every Friday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. for children ages three and a half to six-years-old.

“We’re excited to expand programming opportunities for our littlest gardeners,” said Lisa Duplessie, education program manager. “We believe it’s important to teach children at a young age about where food comes from and this new section of garden will provide endless opportunities for hands-on lessons.”

Please note, free parking is available at Comba Park, but spaces are limited. Carpooling is highly encouraged. For more information on classes and programs at BUGS throughout the year, visit the City of Boise website.
