Made in Idaho: Boise's fresh, functional, and affordable eyewear shop

BOISE, Idaho — A neighborhood optometry shop nestled in downtown Boise is re-inventing the vision industry wheel.

Lumos Optical is a one-stop-shop for all of your optometry needs. The business opened its doors May 1 at the height of the pandemic.

Deemed an "essential business," owners Nastasia Sisco and Matthew Montoya were determined to offer their community affordable, practical, and stylish eyewear options.

"A boutique experience but without the boutique prices," says Montoya.

Lumos offers eye exams, prescription renewals, repairs, and eyewear at budget-friendly prices. Lumos also offers three different packages for eyeglasses.

Sisco says the idea comes from her own experience while trying to find eyeglasses.

"That pair of glasses was $850. It's not sustainable," she says. "When I finally put on a good pair of glasses, I could see out of my glasses, and that was wild to me, totally different."

Prices range from $99 to $150, and each order includes the frame, polycarbonate lenses, and anti-glare coating. Customers hand-select their eyeglass frames to make the shopping experience a little more special.

"Glasses can make you feel good. They're part of your personality, your statement, and I really want Lumos to step away from that 'I have to put this medical device on my face so I can see'. It's so much more than that," explains Sisco.
