MERIDIAN, Idaho — Meridian Fire Department will hold a free Car Seat Check event designed to help community members safely install car seats. The free event will be held Friday, January 24, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Meridian Fire Station One, 540 E. Franklin Road, Meridian. Because space is limited, those interested in participating are asked to make appointments as soon as possible by calling 208-888-1234.
Meridian Fire Department offers monthly car seat events and appointments throughout the year to ensure parents and caregivers are equipped with the tools and knowledge to help keep their children safe while riding in a vehicle. Meridian Car Seat Technicians checked 286 child passenger seats in 2019 and made vital corrections on all but one.
“The best way to keep children safe in the car is to use the right car seat, the right way,” said Fire Marshal Bongiorno, “Which type of car seat, installation, and making sure it’s the right fit are just a few things to consider when navigating car seats.” According to Safe Kids Worldwide, a child is involved in a car crash every 33 seconds. Meridian Fire Department is partnering with our citizens to help keep kids safe while riding in a car.
In addition to free car seat inspections, Meridian Fire Department received a grant that funds car seats for Meridian residents in need.
“Meridian was very fortunate to be selected by the Idaho Department of Transportation to receive this grant,” said Public Education Division Manager Pam Orr, “It has allowed us to supply safe child passenger seats to families with a financial need.”
Meridian Fire Department has a limited number of car seats will be available at this event. For more information about Meridian Fire Department’s Car Seat Inspections, click here.
