MERIDIAN, Idaho — The Meridian Parks and Recreation Department will host a public Open House at the Meridian Homecourt this Friday.
The Meridian Homecourt is a 49,000 square foot sports and recreation facility offering Meridian sports enthusiasts a place to play a variety of popular sports throughout the week.
Meridian Homecourt was recently renovated to include flexible gym space for community classes, camps and activities. Its other recent improvements include the resurfacing of its four full-sized hardwood courts, a switch to more efficient LED lighting, a new front office, restroom renovations and the addition of four family restrooms.
Attendees at the Open House can tour the facility, meet the Meridian Homecourt staff, enjoy refreshments, and take part in a free pickleball demonstration or lesson. (Those who wish to try pickleball are asked to wear tennis shoes or other scuff-resistant footwear.)
In addition to basketball, the Meridian Homecourt’s hardwood courts can transition to accommodate 12 pickleball courts and 6 volleyball courts. A 7,000 square foot area at the south end of the building was recently remodeled with multi-purpose flooring. This area is now used for activities such as dance, cheerleading, martial arts, and tumbling. When not in use for classes, it can also be utilized for pickleball, volleyball, and other uses.
The City of Meridian began operating the Homecourt facility in 2016 when the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, its former owner, moved to its new location at “The Hill” in south Meridian.
"We are extremely pleased with how this facility is evolving to meet the needs of our active and growing community. The Homecourt provides a safe well-maintained place where people of all ages can enjoy a variety of indoor recreation year-round,” said Meridian Parks and Recreation Manager Garrett White, “On a typical day, more than 450 people utilize the Meridian Homecourt and that number is continuing to rise.”
The Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. February 14. For more information, click here.
