BOISE, Idaho — Tuesday was a historic day for St. Luke's Hospital and it's cancer care unit. Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI) celebrated it's 50th anniversary and it now has a new name! MSTI will now be known as the St. Luke's Cancer Institute.

"We really need to have the name cancer in there because so many new people are moving into the valley that even though all the patients and people we've taken care of over the years have known MSTI, would have a little bit of trouble finding us in the Google era," said Dan Zuckerman, St. Luke's Cancer Institute executive medical director.

MSTI opened back in December 1969. A few months later, it broke ground on what back then would be the state's only stand-alone cancer center.

Since then, St. Luke's has opened five full-time cancer centers across southwest Idaho.
