BOISE, Idaho — The Mountain West Board of Directors is suspending all spring sport competitions indefinitely. According to a tweet from the Mountain West, the health and well-being of student athletes, as well as the campus and general public, is a priority.
The board determined the best course of action is to follow the recommendations of public health care and government officials to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
Teams currently competing will finish those events and then return to campus. The teams that have not left yet are suspending travel immediately.
Teams that qualified for the NCAA Championship event may participate at discretion from their university. This is subject to the status of those events as determined by the NCAA.
Decisions about prospective student-athlete recruitment will be made at institutional discretion on a case-by-case basis. The status of sports programs which compete in other conferences will be determined by respective institutions and those conferences.
