BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has appointed a Nampa attorney to fill a judicial vacancy on the 3rd District bench created by the move of Judge Molly Huskey to a seat on the Idaho Court of Appeals.

Davis VanderVelde has practiced law at White Peterson Gigray & Nichols since 2008 and became a partner in 2012. He is the second attorney from the Nampa law firm to be named a 3rd District judge in the past two years. Christopher Nye filled a new seat created by the state Legislature in November 2013.

VanderVelde, a Las Vegas native, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a law degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego. He moved to Nampa in 2006.
