Nampa man pleads guilty to gang killing

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) -- A Nampa man who killed another man by shooting him in the head has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reported that 20-year-old Alberto Chavez made the plea Wednesday in 3rd District Court.

The guilty plea includes an enhancement for committing a felony with the intent to promote criminal gang activity.

Twenty-six-year-old Kyle Jackson died in August in what police say was a gang-related incident.

Authorities say Jackson was shot on Caldwell Boulevard after waving a red bandana, a color affiliated with the Northside gang.

Police say Chavez is believed to be a member of the Southside gang, which uses the color blue.

Sentencing for Chavez is set for Jan. 21.
