Phoenix homeowner creates stunning Halloween-themed light display

A homeowner's Halloween-themed light display in Phoenix is a sight to see.

Carl Jimenez is a self-described "Disney nerd" and fan of the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

For the last four years, he has purchased dozens of lighted pumpkins and synched them to popular Halloween songs, including Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and the Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice theme songs.

By his count, there are 180 pumpkins staged along the rocks that make up his front yard. Fifty of those pumpkins he added this year, he said.

The pumpkins themselves vary, with a mix of scary and happy faces. There are also specialty pumpkins like Mickey Mouse, Scooby-Doo, and even a cactus.

The lights and music are placed on a timer and scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m. each night. The lights will stay on until 11 p.m. during the week, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Jimenez also uses the display to collect donations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona. Donations can be placed in a small money box.

Brandi Devlin, senior director of marketing for the chapter, confirmed to Phoenix-based KNXV in an email that the display was a recognized fundraiser. She added that Jimenez's holiday lights raised $200 last year.

REMEMBER TO RESPECT THE NEIGHBORS

"Our Halloween light show is off to a good start...perhaps toooo good?," Jimenez wrote on the North Phoenix Lights Facebook page after the opening weekend.

He said "hundreds" of people visited the neighborhood and may have overwhelmed the street. Because his house is located near a street corner, the only parking is on the street and is very limited.

"We’re not a professional entertainment company with a staff or volunteers. I’m just a guy with an artistic eye who likes to decorate for the holidays and is handy with music and computers and stuff," he wrote.

Out of respect for the neighborhood, make sure not to block neighbors' driveways or park on their front yards. Drivers may have to park away from the display and walk over.
