A social networking app and website for working professionals has dramatically grown in importance for job seekers.

LinkedIn profiles that are extensive lead to more people getting callbacks for job interviews, according to research conducted by CV and ResumeGo, a resume writing service. Those people are 71 percent more likely to get calls than people without LinkedIn profiles.

The research was conducted between October 2018 and March 2019 and was an experiment involving nearly 25,000 fictitious resumes being submitted to job openings on a wide range of employment websites, including Indeed and Glassdoor, Statista reports.

A third of the resumes submitted did not have a link to an applicant's LinkedIn profile, and another third linked to very limited profiles. Another third included comprehensive LinkedIn profiles.

The research showed that as the job level increased, the callback rates fell.
