Idaho State Police are asking lawmakers to pave the way for unmarked patrol cars on the highway.

Numerous lawmakers expressed doubt about the need for unmarked cars, but the Senate panel introduced a reworked bill Monday. ISP says the cars would save lives.

"Those drivers that are making abrupt lane changes, cutting people off very very quickly, those kinds of issues that lead to the fatalities and injuries, we're seeing on our roads, those are the very behaviors our people in marked cars aren't seeing because they're driving marked cars and we're all on our best behavior when we see a police car," said Lt. Col. Kedrick Wills, Deputy Director of ISP.

The Colonel said this isn't a way ISP to get more money, because they aren't funded by ticket fines.
