BOISE, Idaho — Bogus Basin is celebrating the arrival of 2020 with a day of fun activities on Wednesday, January 1. To cap off the events, the nonprofit recreation area will host its 4th Annual New Year’s Day Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show. The show is being sponsored by Idaho Power, and will begin at 6:15pm with a torchlight parade down the Upper and Lower Ridge runs.

The fireworks display will begin at 6:30pm, following the parade. The event is open to the skiing and non-skiing public and will be visible from the Simplot Lodge Base Area. There is no cost to attend. Activities are planned throughout the day at the area.

Events include a Bogus Basin Word Search, during which skiers and snowboarders will find words around the mountain to complete a sentence and win a prize. A deejay will play music and hand out prizes. At 5:30pm, free cookies and hot chocolate will be available at an Albertson’s tent in the base area, while supplies last.

Jamie Zolber, Bogus Basin’s Director of Skier Services, will serve as Grand Marshal of this year’s torchlight parade. Zolber began his career at Bogus Basin in December 1996 as a 16 year old ski instructor. Other participants in this year’s torchlight parade include volunteers from Boise Adaptive Snowsport Education, or BASE. For over 40 years, BASE (formerly known as Recreation Unlimited) has facilitated winter sports opportunities at Bogus Basin for individuals with disabilities through professional ski and snowboard education in a safe environment which increases physical, social, and functional skills.
