BOISE, Idaho — Zoo Boise announced it's newest addition this morning, a female nyala calf. The calf was born on June 16 to Zara and Bongani, who arrived at the zoo in 2019 as part of the Gorongosa National Park exhibit.
The new family is currently on exhibit at the zoo, but the calf may hide in the bushes for the first few weeks. Zoo Boise says the family is adjusting well.
Nyala are a medium-sized antelope species native to Southeast Africa. The animal inhabits woodland areas and thickets.
Zoo Boise is currently open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a set number of tickets available each day to meet current group size requirements. Tickets have to be purchased in advance, and there is a timed entry process to reduce lines and allow for physical distancing. For more information on ticketing and current protocols, visit the zoo's website.
