A chase that began in Canyon County ended outside Kuna with a police shooting Thursday night.

Police in Canyon County were called after a 72-year-old man's family was worried he may hurt himself.  Police found him driving near Melba.  Investigators say when they tried to pull him over he took off.

He eventually made his way into Ada County and headed south on Swan Falls Rd.

Police tell 6 On Your Side when he continued to refuse to pull over they used a PIT maneuver near Victory Ln. to stop his car.

Investigators say he refused to get out of the car and then pointed a gun at officers, that's when police opened fire.  He then dropped the gun and got out of the car.

That man, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital and treated for gunshot wounds that investigators say appear non-life-threatening.

At this point, it is not clear if the man fired any shots.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office says the officers involved are Wes Bunnell, Vishal Sahni and Nolan Zorn.  All have various levels of experience with the ACSO.  Bunnell has been with the sheriff's office for nine years.  Sahni a member for three years.  Zorn started training as a patrol officer with Bunnell earlier this fall.  It is the first critical incident for them all.

The shooting is now being investigated by the Critical Incident Task Force.  Boise Police will serve as the lead investigative agency.
