BOISE, Idaho — Because of COVID-19, the Old Idaho Penitentiary has put their Frightened Felons event on pause in favor of a series of smaller events they are calling Locktober. Jacey Brian from the Old Idaho Pen says their Frightened Felons event from last year brought around 12,000 people.
This year, they are restricting visitors to most events at 50 per hour.
"We are calling it 'Locktober,' a month-long celebration here at the Old Idaho Penitentiary featuring unique history experiences, family-friendly events, premiere films shot at the Old Idaho Penitentiary and a cell block stroll for October 30 and 31 for the 18 plus only crowd," said Brian.
Tickets for nighttime self-guided tours of the Old Idaho Pen on October 2 and 16 are available for purchase. The tours start at 7 p.m. and end at 11 p.m., with the last admission at 10 p.m. The price is $10 per person or $15 for two people.
Organizers encourage people to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. The event is recommended to those 13 and older due to mature content and site safety hazards.
