MERIDIAN, Idaho — One More Day is a new veteran organization that has joined the fight in preventing suicide among veterans.
David Conley, a U.S. Navy veteran, came up with the idea to start a new organization three years ago.
"We had three vets in my area all commit suicide within a month, and it just broke my heart," said Conley. "That is when I decided I had enough."
But this organization is going about it differently as they are trying to reach veterans before they become veterans.
One More Day has partnered with National Guard units in 11 different states in an effort to get military members the resources they need before they separate into civilian life.
"I started doing research, and there are a thousand different veteran groups doing suicide prevention," said Conley. "I wanted to figure out what they weren't doing or if there was something we could do to help a little more."
One More Day is working to create new legislation that will give guard units more resources for training and suicide prevention.
