CALDWELL – The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one man injured near Marsing Friday afternoon.  Canyon County Deputies said the shooting happened around 2:25 p.m. at the Sunny Slope Market off of Highway 55.

The sheriff’s office said two bond recovery agents from Idaho Fugitive Recovery were attempting to detain Chelsea M. Johnson, 25, of Caldwell, outside of the market.  Investigators say while the bond agents were attempting to apprehend Johnson, Marco A. Mejia, 26, of Caldwell, pointed a gun at them.

Deputies say one bond agent fired his gun, hitting Mejia.  The second bond agent also fired his gun, but the bullet struck the ground.

The sheriff’s office says Mejia -- who was hit in the head -- was airlifted to a hospital in Boise for treatment of minor injuries.  Johnson was arrested after she attempted to flee and was involved in a minor collision, said deputies.

The Canyon County Sheriffs Offices says the bond recovery agents cooperated with investigators and have been released.  Johnson is behind bars on multiple outstanding warrants.  The case will now be reviewed by the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to see if any additional charges will be filed in the incident.

According to court records, Johnson had two bench warrants, each $100,000, for failing to appear in court on a felony drug charge and misdemeanor charges of resisting officers and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Idaho law permits bond agents to carry firearms.
