ONTARIO, Oregon — UPDATE: Ontario Police have arrested two Nampa men in connection with a fatal stabbing this weekend in Ontario.
Police arrested 19-year-old Louis Duran and 27-year-old Gerardo Lopez just six hours after the stabbing near a marijuana dispensary. Police say the victim, identified as Jonah Reyes, died from his wounds at the scene despite efforts by first responders to save his life.
Ontario Police say the stabbing may be gang-related.
Original Story: Ontario Police are investigating a deadly stabbing that happened Sunday afternoon outside of a marijuana dispensary.
The victim is a Hispanic man whose identity has not yet been released.
Police were first called to Burnt River Farms on NW Washington Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, patrol officers found the victim on the sidewalk with a stab wound to his upper body.
Despite life saving efforts by emergency personnel, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through witness interviews and evidence at the scene, investigating detectives say the victim is believed to be from the Ontario, Oregon area.
"At this time, OPD has learned that two suspect(s) male, Hispanics, and the victim had been involved in a verbal confrontation inside the business, prior to the attack," a press release stated. "The investigation by the Ontario Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Malheur County Sheriff Office is on-going and the motive for the attack leans towards the incident possibly being gang-related."
Officials say they're pursuing several leads, resulting in the detention of one person of interest in Idaho, and the possible voluntary surrender of a second person of interest.
