Out and About: Vertical View Climbing Gym

MERIDIAN, Idaho — This month, the Good Morning Idaho crew decided to reach new heights at one of the Treasure Valley's newest climbing gyms.

Vertical View Climbing Gym opened in February, offering the tallest climbing wall in the Pacific Northwest. The wall measures 65 feet--10 feet higher than normal tall walls.

Vertical View is open to everyone and offers something for all ages and abilities. The staff will show you the ropes--literally--while getting you ready to scale the walls. There are several different climbing walls, including a bouldering area.

Besides climbing, there are also regular yoga and hot yoga classes. Members can also check out a gym area, decked out with everything you might need to complete your workout.

The facility offers more than just a good workout--there's also plenty of space to host groups. There are spaces and packages for parties, as well as corporate environments. Other spaces are still being transformed for the community to check out and rent in the future.

Co-owner Jeff Mower says Vertical View tries to reach a wide variety of groups, especially children, to make the gym a community space that also happens to offer indoor climbing in a safe way.

He says the climbers they're most excited for are the first-timers.

"I think they would come back and that's really our aim as a gym--is to get people in here for the first time, getting them loving it," Mower says. "Have them come back and try it again and really taking on the sport of climbing."
