BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho — The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office says it will resume recovery efforts on Saturday, after a snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche in the Palisades area, in eastern Idaho Friday evening.
Deputies say a rider told them around 5:40 p.m. that their group was riding northeast of the Sheep Creek area when the slide happened. That rider says it took an hour to reach cell service and call for help.
Rescue personnel, including Air Idaho Rescue, located the approximate location of the victim, but had to call off for the evening due to weather and terrain conditions.
Risk of avalanche remains very high in the backcountry right now.
