It was an afternoon made of gold today at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology.

A group of folks got to learn all about the history of gold in Idaho from author and historian Troy Lambert, while getting to take a shot at gold panning.

Lambert said that many of Idaho's cities were funded by using mining money, and gold has been a huge part of Idaho's history.

"A lot of people were brought here by gold. The discovery in Pierce in 1860 sparked one of the biggest settlements in United States history.  Idaho is one of only 2 states that was settled from west to east for that reason. People came in on the Columbia and Snake River and then gold brought people to northern Idaho as well," said Lambert.
