Patriot Guard Riders escort Civil War veteran's remains

Posted

Members of the Idaho Patriot Guard Riders are carrying very precious cargo through the state Monday and Tuesday.

The group of motorcyclists honors fallen military personnel.

Monday night, they are escorting the remains of Civil War Pvt. Jewett Williams from Ontario, Ore. to the Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise.

Williams moved West after fighting in the Union Army. His remains were discovered in storage in an Oregon mental institution.

"That's our main mission, to pay respect to our veterans," Idaho Patriot Guard Captain, Dario Bell said. "We've done a lot of WW2 veterans, we've done Vietnam, we've done Korean veterans, and to have a Civil War veteran show up, that's just amazing."

Tuesday, the remains will be escorted from the Cloverdale Funeral Home to Monida, Mont.

Williams' final resting place will be in his birth state of Maine. They are expected to arrive Aug. 22.
