BOISE, Idaho — The Protect Idaho Kids Foundation hosted their first "Piknic in the Park" program Sunday to feed children during the summer in Boise.

Every Sunday, from now until August 30, kids and their parents have the opportunity to get a free lunch and also win some cool prizes from noon to 2 at Ann Morrison.

This initiative aims to help food-insecure youth. Donations from several local organizations make this possible as well as the volunteers.

"Today we had 20 volunteers come out to help us with giving out the food, and make sure that people are social distancing and wearing a mask -- everybody is required to wear a mask," said Bruce Wingate, Protect Idaho Kids Foundation.

The sunshine didn't quite cooperate on the first day, but with several more weeks of the event, people have additional opportunities to get some food. For more information on how to help and how to volunteer, click here.
