JEROME, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho State Police say a passenger in a pickup died Monday morning after the driver fled from authorities by going the wrong way on Interstate 84 and collided with a tractor-trailer.

Police say the collision occurred about 1 a.m. a mile west of Jerome in south-central Idaho after the 1999 Ford F-250 traveled about 7 miles going east in the westbound lanes.

Police say the driver of the pickup was taken into custody. The tractor-trailer driver was unhurt.

Authorities didn't say why the driver fled from deputies with the Gooding County Sheriff's Office. Names of those in the pickup haven't been released.
