BOISE, Idaho — A Boise man is in the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of criminal solicitation to commit a crime.

According to Boise Police Department spokeswoman Haley Williams, officers began investigating the suspect, 60-year-old Byron Ely, after receiving “a tip that Ely wanted to hire someone to harm three people.”

“During their investigation officers found evidence that Ely had made the request,” she said.

The investigation was forwarded to the Ada County Prosecutor’s office and a warrant was issued for Ely’s arrest.

Officers were also able to determine that the three people who Ely allegedly wanted to harm are safe, Williams stated.

Officers of the Boise Police Department Neighborhood Contact Unit arrested Ely on Feb. 28th around 7 p.m.

“As this is still an ongoing investigation, (we) cannot provide any further details at this time,” Williams said.
