Local law enforcement agencies have been handling what one Ada County dispatcher described as “dozens” of vehicle crashes on Interstate 84 and side roads Thursday morning.

Idaho State Police dispatchers report “multiple accidents” westbound on Interstate 84 near Vista Avenue and the Boise Airport. Ada County law enforcement agencies are assisting.

“Many of the Interstate crashes are happening between milepost 33 (in Caldwell) and milepost 76 (at Simco Road),” said an ISP dispatcher.

In Ada County, crews responded to an accident involving a vehicle that rolled into a canal at McMillan Road and Zachary Street. As of 8 a.m., eastbound McMillian Road lanes were closed. It is unknown if anyone suffered injuries.

Ada County dispatchers also say the westbound connector where 184 turns in to I-84 near the Franklin and Milwaukee exit was closed down for about an hour. An officer responded to a slide off and then the officer's car was hit. No injuries were reported.

Dispatchers say Ada County Highway District sanding and de-icing trucks are at a number of locations.

Things are better in Canyon County. Canyon Dispatchers there are reporting one only accident. No injuries were reported.

Dispatchers say it initially appears many of the crashes are being caused by extremely slick road conditions.

Drivers are asked to use caution.
