Police handling multiple accidents on icy I-84

Posted

Idaho State Police troopers, ITD emergency road crews and local law enforcement agencies are handling “multiple” crashes and slide-offs in the Magic Valley.

Of particular concern: a heavily-traveled four-mile stretch of Interstate 84 between Jerome and Burley.

ISP Patrol Lieutenant Robert Rausch told Idaho On Your Side: “We have five (ISP) troopers each handling anywhere from three to five slide-offs and accidents on the Interstate.”

“The current temperatures have melted the ice a little bit, but it’s still pretty icy underneath,” he explained.

Idaho Transportation Department crews are applying salt and sand to various sections of the Interstate, and are notifying ISP of any accidents or slide-off they come upon.

“The reports started coming in (to dispatchers) about 6:30 this morning,” Rausch said, “And they haven’t let up since.”

Various Magic Valley law enforcement agencies are assisting ISP troopers -- while also handling additional accidents on city and county roads in the area.

Motorists are urged to be aware of difficult driving conditions and take appropriate precautions.
