Police: Man arrested for domestic battery and assault on police

GARDEN CITY, Idaho — A Garden City man is in the Ada County Jail after reports of a domestic disturbance on the 400 block of East 46th Street in Garden City Sunday. The call came in just before 7:20 p.m. and Garden City Police learned Charles Cortez, 40, had left the scene in a vehicle.

Officer found Cortez driving near the scene of the crime and tried to conduct a traffic stop. Cortez refused to stop and a short pursuit happened. During the chase, Cortez intentionally hit a patrol car. He was taken into custody shortly after, when he hit a vehicle belonging to the domestic violence victim. That vehicle was parked in front of the residence.

Cortez appeared to be highly intoxicated and there were no injuries from either crash. He was arrested without incident and booked on the following charges:

  • Domestic Battery (Felony)
  • Assault on Law Enforcement (Felony)
  • Eluding (Felony)
  • Driving Under the Influence (Misdemeanor)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Damage Crash (Misdemeanor)
