Police: Man robbed bank with a meat cleaver

Meridian Police are investigating a bank robbery that took place Monday at the Idaho Independent Bank in the 100 block of E. Idaho Avenue.

“The call came in around 3:45 p.m. stating an adult male subject robbed the bank with a meat cleaver. According to information received from witnesses, the suspect jumped over the teller counter and took an undisclosed amount of money,” said Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

The suspect was described as an adult white male, about 5-feet 10-inches tall; 160 pounds, wearing a green coat and possible jungle camouflage striping pants. He had a black and white striped mask covering his face. The suspect was also wearing a black beanie with sunglasses. 

Police say he was possibly driving a silver passenger car with no plates. 

He was last seen traveling north from on East 3rd from East Idaho Avenue, Basterrechea said
