Posted

Students, parents, teachers and community leaders marched from the Basque Center to the Idaho Statehouse steps Wednesday afternoon and rallied in an effort to spotlight Idaho School Choice Week.

The goal of the rally was to highlight school choice in the Gem State and was timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 24-30).

Locally, Idaho Governor “Butch” Otter proclaimed January 24-30, 2016 to be Idaho School Choice Week.

The march and rally featured student and parent speakers representing public schools, magnet schools, public charter schools, virtual schools, independent, private and religious schools, and home schools. Speakers included Idaho Schools Superintendent Sherri Ybarra and Shawna Exline, West Ada School District 2015 Teacher of the Year.

Vocal performances included students from the Idaho Fine Arts Academy, a magnet school in Eagle.

The Boise march and rally was one of more than 16,000 events held across the country this week.
