Rat poison kills 50 crows in Nampa

Posted

The Nampa Police Department has a message for the public. It is illegal to poison animals, including birds.

The public message comes after  approximately 50 dead crows were found January 19, in the 400 block of 3rd Street South in Nampa. The dead crows showed no signs of trauma. A few of the crows were turned over to Idaho Fish and Game for testing.

The results of the tests showed the crows were positive for a substance that is commonly used in rat poison.

Officers tell 6 On Your Side they want to alert the public that this poison is obviously very dangerous and to take extreme caution when handling dead animals/birds. If you happen to come across a large number of dead birds, please contact Nampa Animal Control or the Idaho Fish and Game Department.
