SAN DIEGO – There are reports of a possible active shooter at the Naval Medical Center in the Balboa Park area Tuesday morning.

According to an NMCSD news release, a single witness reported hearing three shots from the basement of Building 26 at about 8 a.m. The building houses a gym and barracks.
First responders and Navy dog units were scouring the building. The medical center remains on lockdown and a shelter in place order has been given.
In a post on the NMCSD Facebook page, people were "advised to run, hide or fight." There were no reports of injuries. All non-emergency personnel were told to stay away.
San Diego and Garfield high schools were locked down as a precaution, along with Roosevelt Middle School. The lockdowns were lifted at around 9:30 a.m.
San Diego police were conducting traffic controls at Pershing and Florida drives.
