BOISE, Idaho — Mayor Lauren McLean announced Monday that Ron Winegar is now the Acting Chief of the Boise Police Department. Winegar will take over the role on April 24, replacing Acting Police Chief Mike Masterson as he is retiring.
“I appreciate Ron’s sense of duty and service in his willingness to step in as Acting Chief during this crucial time for our city, and for the department," said Mayor McLean. "Ron demonstrates a sincere understanding and engaging approach to leadership. He will provide a great deal of stability to the department during the COVID-19 health crisis."
Winegar has 26 years with the Boise Police Department and previously served as deputy chief. The City of Boise is still searching for a new police chief after Bill Bones announced his retirement in 2019. More information on the next stages of the search will be released shortly.
