BOISE, Idaho — Right now, Simply Cats is getting ready to help three special kittens, and they need your help, too!
The kittens, 3-month-old Vesna, Tonka, and Aggie, were born with Feline Eyelid Agenesis. The genetic issue caused the kittens to have missing portions of their eyelids, meaning fur gets directly in their eyes and causes chronic pain and vision loss. It most commonly affects cats, but it is still a very uncommon issue.
Vesna, Tonka, and Aggie will have to undergo surgery to recreate a false eyelid which requires skin grafting and is very technical, so it must be done by an experienced surgeon. The cats will also have to undergo cryotherapy to remove fur that is in contact with the eye by freezing it off, but it may grow back without multiple treatments. Treatments and surgeries are expected to cost over $1000 for each kitten. A donation link can be found here.
Simply Cats believes this may be the first case in the Treasure Valley, but they are hoping to connect with anyone who may have dealt with the issue in their own feline friend. You can contact Simply Cats by emailing info@simplycats.org.
