SOLDIER MOUNTAIN — Soldier Mountains new mountain bike park's grand opening is Aug. 8 starting at 11 a.m.

In this phase one opening, the park will offer 7.7 miles of gravity mountain bike trails with one easy, intermediate, advanced and extreme-cut jump trail.

“When our guests show up now, what we’re doing is opening a trail for each level of skill,” said Soldier Mountain General Manager, Paul Alden.

They've already had several volunteers come test out the new trails.

“Thus, far we are getting very high remarks on this construction,” said Alden.

The park officially opens to the public Aug. 7 at 1:30 p.m., although the big grand opening celebration won't be until Aug. 8.

DJ locomotive will spin some vinyl, they'll have raffles and giveaways, as well as street tacos and cold brewskis available for anyone who wants to come check out the new trails.

“We’re excited to get it going because we want to see people using the forest the way it was intended and that’s not just in the winter," said Alden.

Soldier Mountain is offering guests a 50 percent discount off the regular price of admission to the bike park during its grand opening weekend, Aug. 7-9.

Tickets normally cost $39 for adults (ages 18-69) and $29 for youth (ages 9-17). The resort extends seniors (ages 70+), veterans, and military personnel a $10 discount.

The mountain has one chair lift running, but there's plenty of other outdoor activities available for the whole family.

Since it's on federal land you can camp anywhere for free.

“Come on bring your bikes and also camp overnight and it doesn’t cost anything!” said Alden.

They are excited to have the resort operating year-round, and they've made many upgrades including adding wifi and cable to the resorts.

The cafe and lounge will also be open year-round.

“That area from Boise on down, Twin Falls, Rupert that whole area, can have another option," said Alden. "They have lots of options now, we happen to think they’ll love this one.”
