CALDWELL, Idaho — The Southwest District Health Board of Health (SWDH) will hold a Special Board of Health meeting on July 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Canyon County Courthouse, Courtroom 140, in Caldwell. The meeting room will have limited seating and will allow for social distancing and face coverings will be available for those who choose to wear one, according to a release from SWDH.

Public comments will not be taken during the special meeting but comment specific to a agenda items for the meeting can be submitted here. The period to submit comments will close at 2:30 p.m. on July 22. The comments will be compiled and shared with Board of Health members before the meeting and an overview ill be presented at the meeting.

The meeting was first scheduled for July 17 and was canceled for safety concerns. It was rescheduled for July 21, but a cancellation notice was issued to allow for time to ensure all security concerns have been addressed.

According to the release, the agenda has been simplified to "dispel public speculation about the Board of Health's intent to impose a mandatory mask order." The agenda has action items to allow board members to provide recommendations to Southwest District Health and communities about strategies to slow the spread of COVID-19 and limit exposure.

The recommendations members will consider at the meeting will link to the COVID-19 Health Alert Level system that was recently rolled out. The system was developed with input from Board of Health members and county emergency managers to provide information about risk for exposure and recommendations for limiting risk.

“The hope for this system is that it will be an effective tool our entire community can use to stay informed of the risk level and applicable measures they can take to minimize the risk of exposure where they live, work, and play,” said Nikki Zogg, Southwest District Health District Director.

The meeting will be available for live streaming at the SWDH YouTube page.
