Winco will anchor a new development in North Meridian.
With a new Costco approved just down the road, the Linder Village development will bring even more commercial business and traffic to the area. The intersection of Chinden and Linder is already a vibrant part of town. Fred Meyer and the rest of Eagle Island Marketplace is located North of there, and a number of smaller businesses lay West of the intersection. To the Southeast though, there's only a big open field.
"There is a proposal make room in Linder Village for a Winco," said Caleb Hood, a planning division manager. "It has gone through our planning and zoning commission."
The big issue? Traffic. Idaho is now talking seriously about widening Chinden Blvd west from Eagle road. The developer of the new Costco has already committed to expanding the busy state highway east to Linder.
City officials are hoping to create a "reverse commute" with Boise, by giving North Meridian residents everything they need within a two-mile area-- including future offices.
There have been rumors floating around about a Winco being built near Eagle and Overland, and Hood says that's a possibility too.
"I think they're pursuing both sites," Hood said.
If that's the case, don't worry, we'll be here to cover it.
