International Walk to School Day

Some Treasure Valley school kids had the opportunity to walk to their elementary with some Idaho leaders for international walk to school day.

Beginning at Camel’s Back Park, students made the morning trek with parents, teachers, Governor Otter, and Congressman Mike Simpson to Longfellow Elementary School. One dad believes a safe walking environment in his community is important for his kids.

"They were pretty fired up this morning about doing it so it was easy to get them up and out of the house to get here early to take on the event," said Jim Pardy, a Longfellow Elementary parent.

"I think it's great, you know, obviously we want our kids to be safe and safe routes to school are good and we want them to be healthy," said Governor Otter.

The event was organized by the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance, which aims to bring greater awareness for safe communities to walk and bike in.
