Organizers of Boise’s Treefort Music Fest have announced the musical acts slated to perform at the big event and are expected to release more names in the coming months.
The festival draws thousands of people from all over the Northwest to Idaho. It’s scheduled to run March 23rd though the 27th at various concert stages throughout Boise and, fans say, has grown into a mature and well-respected music festival after starting back in 2012 with humble roots.
From over 100 acts three years ago to over 400 acts in 2015, the festival has been described by magazines like Willamette Week as, “…the inland Northwest's best-kept secret.”
It also includes unique “forts” including Hackfort (a coding seminar) Skatefort (which ultimately helped raise funds for the currently-renovated Rhodes Skatepark) and Filmfort (showcasing local filmmakers at the Flicks Theater).
In 2015 and 2016, the City of Boise appointed Treefort as the “Cultural Ambassador” and awarded the festival a $25,000 grant.
After several years of using volunteers to offset costs, Treefort has found its footing with sponsorships -- and became a certified B-Corporation in summer of 2015.
Treefort organizers said, “We have often stated that we are a ‘for profit entity ran like a non-profit’ because we have always been a values-based project, driven by a purpose much more than the lure of profit. In the summer of 2014, we were presented with a legal option for which we could best represent who we are as a festival, as community members and as a business -- the Treefort Leadership Team officially formed Treefort, LLC and began seeking B Corp certification to lock in and protect the legacy principles the festival was founded upon.”
