Boise's Turkey Day 5K run helped runners beat the bulge before their traditional Thanksgiving dinners.  It also helped benefit a number of non-profit organizations.

Runners covered a circuit around Boise that started and ended near the Idaho state capitol building.

The event has become a go-to event that kicks off the holiday season.

"You've got to tour around downtown Boise which was really fun, and with it being Thanksgiving it's so festive and so many people are out today, so it was a lot of fun."

Proceeds from the Turkey Day run benefit charities such as Special Olympics and the City Light Shelter. Many people also brought canned goods for the Boise Rescue Mission.
