A Nampa man and a Caldwell woman are in custody after a Payette County pursuit with deputies early Tuesday morning.
About 12:20 a.m., a Payette County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped the driver of a white 4-door Pontiac for having fictitious license plates. The traffic stop was initiated along Highway 95 in Fruitland.
However, the driver sped away –- with the deputy following.
The chase led into the town of Payette, where the driver -- who police later identified as Ruby Almeida, 24, of Caldwell -- stopped in the parking lot of the Payette A&W restaurant.
“She was taken into custody immediately,” said Payette County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Andy Creech.
Her passenger, Jonathan Zazueta, 21, of Nampa, took off running, Creech stated. Officers from the Payette City Police Department and Fruitland Police Department helped to soon capture him.
Almeida was arrested for driving while suspended and eluding a police officer. Zazueta was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance, and resisting and obstructing an officer, Creech said.
(A mugshot of Almeida was not immediately available.)
