A single car accident into a ditch in Ontario, Oregon ended with one man shot in the head, and two others on the run.
Police are looking for the suspects.
Daniel Mclay was just outside of his parents home near the 4000 block of Lincoln Drive in Ontario, Oregon trying to jumpstart a car when he heard something strange coming from the ditch near the home.
Then Mclay said he heard a struggle take place, followed by multiple gunshots.
That's when one of the three occupants of the car was shot.
The injured man made his way to a neighbors house where the individuals inside helped until medics arrived.
"The person who made contact was bleeding and said he had been shot in the back of the head," said Sheriff Brian Wolfe of the Malheur County Sheriffs Office.
"The other two ran away on foot, and hid down on our property. Then they tracked them to where they swam across the river here, the Malheur river and then they made their way over to the other side of the river and apparently got away," said Mclay
"They did cross the river. We do know that, and continued onward," said Sheriff Wolfe.
The Malheur County Sheriffs office is in the process of trying to confirm the identities of the suspects, but they said they do not believe there is a danger to the public.
"We believe that these three individuals knew each other and it was some kind of altercation between the three," said Sheriff Wolfe.
Mclay said he feels safe because he doesn't think the men would ever come back, but it was far from a normal day.
"It's not a normal thing to happen out here. It's kind of scary that it's happening right in your back yard," said Mclay.
The man who was shot is in serious condition but was alert enough to answer police questions.
Multiples agencies across Oregon are working to find the two men.
The Malheur County Sheriffs office says they believe authorities in Idaho will be involved at some point as well.
