IDAHO — Governor Brad Little has directed all U.S. and State of Idaho flags to be lowered to half-staff to honor Bonneville County Sheriff's Deputy Wyatt Maser. Deputy Maser was killed in the line of duty on May 18, 2020. He started with the Sheriff's Office in April 2019.
Deputy Maser responded to help another deputy on Bone Road in Idaho Falls. While attempting to take a woman with a machete into custody, Sgt. Randy Flegel, who was responding to the area to help, accidentally hit Deputy Maser with his vehicle.
Deputy Maser's funeral is scheduled for May 22 with a viewing at Woods Funeral Home in Idaho Falls, which is limited to groups of 10 or less, with family and friends preferred. A procession will follow with the graveside service at 3 p.m. at Fielding Memorial Cemetery. Social distancing guidelines should be followed at the graveside service.
There will be a significant increase of parked cars/traffic near Woods Funeral Home on S. Ammon between 1st St. and 17th St. from 11am till 3pm. The public is asked to avoid the area as much as possible. At Fielding Memorial Cemetery there will also be a significant amount of traffic related to the funeral service throughout the day and access will be limited.
Suggested areas for the community to view the procession and/or pay respects to Dep. Maser and family are:
- South of 17th St. to Sunnyside
- Hillcrest HS/Sandcreek Commons area near Sunnyside and 25th E.
- Mel Erickson Park near EIRMC and Sunnyside Rd
- Sunnyside and Woodruff area
A memorial fund has been set up by the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #8. You can find it at the ISU Credit Union in Idaho Falls under the name "Bonneville County FOP, Wyatt Maser Memorial Account." Flags will be lowered to half-staff in Idaho now through Saturday, May 23, 2020, at midnight.
